Background Checks

Old Dominion University students in approved  teacher education preparation programs are required to provide a background check when registering for a course that requires a field experience placement for practicum or for the teacher candidate internship.  Presently, many school divisions, including the ODU Child Development and Child Study Centers, are requiring background checks.  Please read below for more detailed information pertaining to:

• List of School Divisions in the Commonwealth of Virginia Requiring Background Checks
  (This list may change without notice due to school divisions policy changes.)
  The school division will inform you which forms need to be completed.
  
  
• Department of Defense Dependent Schools (DoDDS)
  Complete the regular Teacher Candidate Internship application located on this link.  Scroll down.  You will see the information for student teaching with DoDDS.  Print the application for DoDDS student teaching placement.  Teacher Candidates requesting a placement to student teach with DoDDS must also complete the Background Check. When you receive the background search report, submit it to Teacher Education Services with your application.
