Professional Development Courses for Counselors

The Counseling and Human Services programs at Old Dominion University offer a number of continuing education opportunities for counseling, human development, and other related mental health professionals.   Included in the offerings are a series of eight full-day workshops held throughout the calendar year known as the Big Splash workshops in counseling; institutes held in Italy and Ireland for 10 days to two weeks each summer; and many short courses that focus on cutting edge topics of interest to counseling, mental health, and human development professionals.

Counselors in community mental health agencies, private practices, schools, colleges, universities, substance abuse treatment facilities, rehabilitation agencies, and other settings are invited to participate in our continuing education opportunities.  In addition, social workers, marriage and family therapists, psychologists, and other mental health professionals are welcomed to participate in the outstanding continuing education programs we offer.

In addition to continuing education opportunities the Counseling Human Services Department at Old Dominion University offers a Ph.D., an Ed.S. (education specialist) degree, and master’s degrees in counseling.  Counseling master’s degrees are available in the specialties of college counseling, community counseling, mental health counseling, and school counseling.  Information about degree program can be obtained from Dr. Ted Remley at tremley@odu.edu.
