Post-Baccalaureate Endorsement Program in Marketing Teacher Education
The post-baccalaureate teachinglicensure program in marketing education is designed to prepare a person whohas a business-related baccalaureate degree to be a marketing educationteacher-coordinator. Participants who successfully complete this program willqualify to apply for a Virginia teaching license with a marketing educationendorsement.
Prior to entering this programstudents must hold a business-oriented baccalaureate degree in which 30 hoursof marketing-related courses have been completed including at least threesemester hours each of courses covering the marketing process, economics,personnel, the sales process, operations and organization, and promotion.Students must also have completed a rigorous general education program asoutlined by the Commonwealth in its Licensure Regulations for Teachers. Theymust be interviewed and accepted by the marketing education program leader.Finally, students must attain or exceed the minimum score required by Virginiaon the PRAXIS I examination (or the SAT/ACT equivalent). The PRAXIS I exam (orthe SAT/ACT equivalent) must be passed prior to admittance into teachereducation and taking SEPS 408/508.
Students must (1) complete thefollowing courses: SEPS 297, SPED 313, TLED 408, SEPS 400/500, SEPS 401/501, SEPS402, SEPS 408/508, SEPS 450/550, and SEPS 485; (2) earn a 2.75 cumulative gradepoint average if licensure is at the undergraduate level and a 3.00 cumulativegrade point average if licensure is at the graduate level; and (3) document atleast 4000 clock hours of marketing-related work experience completed withinthe past five years or complete SEPS 405. Passing scores on PRAXIS II arerequired before registering for the teacher internship (SEPS 485). Studentscompleting approved teacher education programs after December 31, 2006 mustpass Virginia's Communication and Literacy Assessment to be licensed to teachin Virginia. Twelve hours of 500/600 level courses may be applied toward theMaster of Science in Occupational and Technical Studies, middle and secondaryteaching concentration.
