The Higher Education program offers professional graduate degrees for careers in advanced leadership positions in colleges, universities, non-profit organizations, or educational associations. Students create personalized curricular plans that prepare them for growing fields in higher education:

M.S.Ed. or Ed.S. applicants may apply to enroll starting fall or spring. Ph.D. cohorts start each summer.

Classes are scheduled in the late afternoon and evening to accommodate the schedules of working professionals.

Each spring all students have an opportunity to participate in a 10-day study abroad experience over spring break. Students in the HIED 744/844 Comparative Higher Education Systems examine current developments in higher education systems internationally, including:

Spain & Portugal - Next Spring 2016

Graduate Assistantships »

Full-time students are supported by graduate assistantships (GAs). All M.S.Ed. applicants will be considered for graduate assistantships.

Full-time Ph.D. students, both U.S. and international, will be considered for GAs assisting faculty with their research, teaching, and service responsibilities.


ODU also offers a distance learning Ph.D. degree program in Community College Leadership.
