History of the Summer Institute
For over twenty-five years, the TWP Summer Institute (SI) has been training teachers each summer to be Teacher Consultants. At the Institute, teachers examine issues in the teaching of writing, present and demonstrate approaches to the teaching of writing, study current and past research in the field, and write in various modes and from different points of view, including a position paper on the teaching of writing.
Location
The TWP holds its Summer Institute at Old Dominion University in the Education building.
Dates
The SI runs for one month in the summer, and Fellows attend from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Monday through Friday.
Credits Earned
Fellows earn six graduate credits in Education.
Cost
$1,824.00 (the cost of six hours of graduate tuition at Old Dominion University). Please seek tuition assistance from schools and/or school districts. Fellows receive a stipend ($500) in the fall after completion of the institute.

The Interview
Select applicants will be invited to interview on an afternoon in May at Old Dominion University. Applicants will be notified of their acceptance into the Institute in May.
